| Your Pulmicort Turbuhaler is both an asthma medication
and a delivery system that is used by adults and children 6
years of age and older. Pulmicort Turbuhaler is an
inhaled corticosteroid. The medication in your Pulmicort
Turbuhaler works to reduce and prevent inflammation in your
airways and helps manage your asthma symptoms when used
regularly. The actual device for the medication is
called a Turbuhaler. Pulmicort Turbuhaler is a simple-to-use
delivery system that is inhalation driven.
"Inhalation driven" means that when you breathe in through
your Pulmicort Turbuhaler, your medication is delivered to
your lungs. Unlike aerosol inhalers, no propellants, such as
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), are necessary to deliver your
medication. Pulmicort Turbuhaler is not a
bronchodilator and is not intended to treat acute asthma
attacks. |

| Seretide / Advair. MDI or Diskus® (has a combination of
Serevent® and Flovent® in one inhaler). Seretide™(Advair)
contains Serevent™ (salmeterol xinafoate) and Flixotide™
(fluticasone propionate) in one MDI inhaler.
Fluticasone propionate should not be confused with other
steroids such as anabolic steroids misused by some athletes
and taken as tablets or injection. When you take these
two ingredients together regularly they will both help to
control your breathing difficulties. Seretide (Advair)
inhaler contains a suspension of salmeterol xinafoate and
fluticasone propionate in CFC-free propellant, HFA 134a. The
medicine is contained in a pressurized can, with a
mouthpiece and an 'actuator'. Each time the actuator
is pressed a dose of the medicine is released. Each can
contains 120 doses of the medicine. Each dose contains 25
micrograms (mcg) salmeterol (as xinafoate) and 50, 125 or
250 mcg fluticasone propionate. How your medicine
works -Salmeterol xinafoate is one of a group of medicines
called bronchodilators. It relaxes the muscles in the walls
of the small air passages in the lungs. This helps to open
the airways and makes it easier for air to get in and out of
the lungs. The effects of salmeterol xinafoate last for at
least 12 hours. When it is taken regularly it helps
the small air passages to remain open. Fluticasone
propionate is one of a group of medicines called
corticosteroids which are often referred to simply as
steroids. Corticosteroids are used to treat breathing
problems because they have an anti-inflammatory action.
Corticosteroids also help to prevent attacks of asthma.
What is Seretide (Advair) Inhaler used for? Your
doctor has chosen this medicine to suit you and your
condition. Seretide inhaler is used to help with breathing
problems in people who need regular treatment. It is
very important that you use your Seretide inhaler every day,
as instructed by your doctor. This will help you to keep
free of symptoms throughout the day and night.
Seretide (Advair) inhaler should not be used to relieve a
sudden attach of breathlessness or wheezing. If you
get this sort of attack you must use a quick acting inhaler
(eg. Ventolin) also known as a reliever puffer. If you
feel you are getting breathless or wheezy more often than
normal, or you are using your inhaler more than usual, you
should go to your doctor. |

| Singulair is the first asthma controller medication in
over a decade indicated for use in children as young as 2
years. Singulair is a new type of medication for the
prevention and long-term treatment of asthma. Singulair is
steroid-free and offers the convenience of a once-daily
tablet. How It Works -Montelukast or Singulair
is able to block leukotriene action in the lung resulting in
less constriction of the bronchial tissue and less
inflammation. Its activity translates into fewer asthma
attacks and fewer asthma medications. Side Effects
-Montelukast or Singulair is generally well tolerated. It
can be taken with or without food, and a once daily, usually
in the evening. Cautions -Children as well as
elderly people tolerate Montelukast or Singulair well,
although a dosage adjustment may be required.
Drug Interactions -Montelukast or Singulair can be given in
combination with other asthma medications, and it does not
interact with warfarin or Theophylline. |

attacks. Use other "quick-relief" medicines/inhalers for
sudden shortness of breath or asthma attacks.
Advair Diskus (Fluticasone): Advair
Diskus is an oral inhaler used to relieve asthma symptoms.
This medicine contains two types of ingredients: One is
Fluticasone propionate, a steroid that reduces
inflammation in the lungs. The other, Salmeterol, is a
long-acting bronchodilator that opens up the airways. The
two ingredients provide better control of asthma when they
are together than individually
Combivent (Ipratropium bromide, Albuterol
sulfate): Combivent is used for people with
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This medicine has
two active ingredients that act in distinctly different
ways. One, Ipratropium, quells airway-closing spasms in
the bronchial walls and the second one is Albuterol, which
relaxes the muscles in the walls, permitting them to
expand.
Generic Beclovent (BECLOMETHASONE) is a corticosteroid
used to treat asthma. This medicine is also used to
prevent asthma attacks. It will not stop an asthma attack
once one has started.
Generic Flovent (FLUTICASONE) is a corticosteroid used to
treat asthma. This medicine is also used to prevent asthma
attacks. It will not stop an asthma attack once one has
started.
Proventil (Albuterol sulfate):
Proventil is a medication especially used for the
treatment of asthma. Proventil contains albuterol, which
helps in the prevention and relief of bronchial spasms
that narrow the airway. Some brands of this medication are
also used for the prevention of bronchial spasms due to
exercise.
Generic Pulmicort (BUDESONIDE) is a corticosteroid used to
prevent bronchial asthma. It is not used to relieve an
asthma attack.
Singulair (MONTELUKAST) is used for the prevention and
long-term treatment of asthma. It is also used to treat
hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis). Montelukast works
by blocking substances in the body called leukotrienes.
Blocking leukotrienes improves asthma and seasonal
allergic rhinitis symptoms.
Generic Ventorlin (ALBUTEROL) is a bronchodilator used to
treat or prevent the symptoms of asthma, emphysema, and
other breathing conditions. This medicine is also used to
prevent the symptoms of exercise-induced asthma. |
